UPDATE 10/12:

It is with deep sadness that we share that Binky has crossed the rainbow bridge. 🥺❤️‍🩹

Binky’s journey has touched many hearts. He was part of the senior trio we helped after their owner was taken into hospice- a who gained custody of when her daughter passed away in 2020, and loved the dogs deeply. In her final days, we were told how grateful she was that they had found safety with us. It’s something that still chokes us up every time we think about it. 😭

Unfortunately, despite every effort, Binky’s condition didn’t improve. The sphincter controlling his bladder function was severely impacted, and his quality of life was declining. After many days of close treatment and daily hospital visits, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to be Binky’s voice and let him go while he was still feeling his best. ❤️‍🩹

Binky left knowing he had a home and family. His incredible foster family, vet specialists, and volunteers became his second family and did everything possible to give him a chance and prioritize his comfort. 🫶

Special shout out to his foster parents who took selfless care of him, including sleeping on the floor, and quickly become medical fosters for him. Binky felt your love every moment and was home with you. ❤️
Special shoutout to our rescue director, Kristal, who spent every waking moment researching, planning, and advocating for him. He got the Kristal love & dedication that any living being is lucky to get. ❤️

Binky was loved like our own. We take comfort in knowing he’s now reunited with his moms, watching over his siblings Remy and Clemy. 🙏

We’ll continue to care for them and other senior dogs in his honor, carrying forward the love and devotion he inspired in us all. ❤️

The last week revolved around Binky and we haven’t had a chance to fundraise fully for his care. Binky was visiting the emergency vet for daily catheterization and care in the last week.

UPDATE 9/29:

Binky had advanced imaging done at Texas A&M. The MRI confirmed what his neurology team suspected, he is suffering from a severe cervical spinal cord compression, most consistent with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). The disc extrusion is located at the C6/C7 vertebrae and explains his paralysis, pain, and bladder dysfunction.

So far, we have spent over $4,500 on emergency care and imaging. We’ve raised $2,370 on GiveButter and $901 on Venmo, but to say yes to surgery we still need to raise at least $5,729 more. Binky remains hospitalized while his pain and bladder are being managed.

Managing Binky’s current comfort and long-term mobility are our top priorities. The neurology team has confirmed that surgery is possible, though it will be more complex because of the disc’s location. We are carefully weighing whether surgery is the right path for Binky, given the risks, his age and size, and the demands of aftercare.

💙 We want our supporters to know that every dollar donated for Binky will go directly to his care. If donations exceed the cost of his treatment, we will use the funds for other dogs in our care (with updates provided) or refund donors upon request. Right now, what matters most is raising the funds so that surgery remains an option for Binky.

UPDATE 9/28:

What began as a hopeful diagnosis of FCE has now been ruled out. His neurologists believe he is facing a serious cervical spinal cord problem, most likely IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease).

What this means:

• Binky is in significant pain.

• The path forward is an MRI and likely spinal surgery, with an estimated cost of $8,000–$10,000 not including the rehabilitation he’ll need afterward.

• Without surgery, his chances of recovery are a coin flip.

• Our rescue has already spent $2,700 on emergency care, and so far we’ve raised only $630 toward this lifesaving treatment.

Why We Can’t Wait

• Binky is getting a MRI right now (as of 9/29 at 1:20PM) and the neurology team is preparing to move forward with surgery.

• We need funds immediately to cover the MRI and be able to say “yes” to surgery the moment we get the call.

• Every hour matters: if too much time passes and Binky loses deep pain perception, his chances of recovery plummet.

• Right now, given the suspected diagnosis, surgery offers him a ~90% chance of regaining mobility.

• If we delay, those odds drop to barely a coin flip.

9/26- Help Sweet Senior Binky on His Road to Recovery

Binky is one of our senior trio (brother to Remy & Clemy) who lost their home when their guardian went into hospice care. He was finally starting to settle into the good life again- couch lounging, cruising around town, and soaking in the sights on Lady Bird Lake.

But one night changed everything. Binky jumped off the bed and injured his spine, sending his foster dad rushing him to the ER. After hours of testing and a $900 emergency vet visit, he was diagnosed with Fibrocartilaginous Embolism (FCE).

💔 Right now, Binky is paralyzed in his hind legs.
✨ The good news: FCE isn’t painful after onset, doesn’t require surgery, and many dogs can recover with supportive care and physical therapy.

Binky’s road ahead will be filled with vet check-ups, physical therapy, and the daily supplies that will keep him safe and comfortable while he heals. His foster family is committed to helping him every step of the way, but they can’t do it without us.
