• Every person deserves a safe place to call home, but in Central Western Maine, far too many individuals and families are living in unsafe, unstable, or uninhabitable conditions. That’s where Mission at the Eastward (MATE) steps in. Since 1954, MATE has served our neighbors through a variety of critical programs, notably our hands-on home repairs and transitional housing, transforming lives and entire communities, one project at a time.

OUR THREE PROGRAMS:

🛠️ MATE Housing Repair

• Our dedicated teams of volunteers, staff, and skilled partners repair roofs, fix unsafe flooring, insulate homes for winter, and ensure safe entryways for seniors. These essential repairs help low-income homeowners remain in their homes safely and with dignity.

🏠 MATE Transitional Housing 

• We provide safe, temporary shelter  for individuals and families in crisis, those experiencing situational homelessness, domestic violence, or sudden displacement. The McCleary House is more than a roof, it's a launchpad toward independence, healing, and stability.

🌱 MATE Youth Connection 

• We’re not just building homes, we’re planting seeds. Through MATE Youth Connection, young people from across the U.S. come to serve, learn, and grow alongside our communities. MYC fosters leadership, compassion, and purpose in tomorrow’s change-makers, laying the foundation for a more just and caring world.

✅ $50 enables us to purchase weather-sealing paint to help prevent rotting on aging homes
✅ $100 provides insulation for drafty rooms
✅ $250 funds urgent plumbing or heating repairs
✅ $500 supports a month of transitional housing care
✅ $1,000 sponsors the building of a safe entry/exit porch or and ADA ramp for an elderly Mainer
