Preserving the Past, Protect the Future: The Hilton Head Island Land Trust Raptor CAM Project

In the heart of South Carolina's Lowcountry, where the natural beauty of the land whispers tales of history, conservation, and community, stands the Hilton Head Island Land Trust.  Our mission since 1987 has been steadfast: to protect significant parcels of land on Hilton Head Island for the enrichment and enjoyment of future generations.

Your Gift Protects What We ALL Love

The Hilton Head Island Land Trust, powered by a dedicated all-volunteer Board of Directors and committed members, operates without paid staff, ensuring that every dollar donated goes directly toward our conservation efforts. Together, we are more than stewards of the land; we are guardians of history and protectors of the natural beauty that defines Hilton Head Island.

Our projects span the preservation of crucial habitats and historic sites, each with its unique story and significance:

  • Fort Howell, an earthen Union Civil War fort built to protect the freedmen’s village of Mitchelville, stands as a testament to our nation's complex history, now a part of the National Register of Historic Places and the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom.
  • Whooping Crane Pond Conservancy, a lush 137-acre wetland conservancy, invites exploration and wonder through its ancient forests and savannahs, accessible via an elevated boardwalk and nature trails.
  • Northridge Conservancy Tract, protects 64 acres of diverse Sea Island natural habitats, from oak and pine uplands to pristine freshwater wetlands, preserving the quiet solitude of nature's undisturbed beauty.
  • The Island's FIRST RAPTOR CAM and expansion of a second nest, with a lifetime viewership of over 1.6 million visitors, the Raptor Cam helps us share our legacy of habitat protection with viewers from all over the world.

How You Can Help

Your support through this Raptor CAM fundraising drive enables us to continue our work and sharing an up-close view of raptors in their nests doing life during nesting season with egg(s) laid, hatching, growing protecting and fledging.

Join us in this essential mission. Your donation today ensures the preservation of our island's natural beauty and historical heritage. Together, we can protect these treasures from the relentless pace of development, ensuring that future generations can experience the wonder of Hilton Head Island just as we do today.
