My name is Bernie Rodriguez. For almost 20 years, I served as a New York City firefighter, starting my career in one of the busiest firehouses in Manhattan. I am a father of four, with three girls and a son. My days were spent rushing into danger, climbing flights of stairs with nearly 100 pounds of gear and equipment, always ready to help others. The job was demanding, but I was proud to serve and protect my city.

🏥 The Challenge

Years of pounding up and down stairs and carrying heavy loads have taken a toll on my knees. One day, after hurting my right knee at a fire, I went to the medical office. I was told my injury was just degeneration, not the result of years of shock and impact to my knees and joints. Now, my knees are really bad, and the pain makes it hard to keep up with my teenage son and my nine-year-old daughter.

💔 What’s at Stake

I used to play catch and run football plays with my son. Now, all I can do is stand still and catch or throw the ball. Even simple activities with my kids are limited by pain. Climbing the stairs to my fifth-floor apartment feels like a mountain some days.

🌟 What I Hope to Achieve

My goal is simple. I want to be able to make it up the stairs to my apartment without pain. I want to play with my kids again, move freely, and enjoy the moments that matter with my family.
