Hi! I am Alex and I have been a pediatric hematology/oncology/BMT nurse for seven years! During this time, I have had the honor of caring for children and families, standing alongside them and bearing witness to both their joy and their suffering. On so many days, I found myself wishing there was so much more that I could do to support my beloved patients and families… so I enrolled in graduate school to become a therapist!

My goal as a therapist is to stand in the gap, expanding the care that I can provide in both my continued role as a bedside nurse as well as my new role in providing emotional support to families at every stage of the childhood cancer journey. I have experience in facilitating grief groups for bereaved parents as well as having my Masters in Palliative Care and having worked as a palliative care counselor. I have been involved with the MaxLove Project for years and am so honored that I will get to serve the community that I treasure so dearly as I finish my degree. The mission that MaxLove Project and I share is being able to provide mental health support and accessible, intentional care to the childhood cancer community. I will be interning at MaxLove Project for a full year, providing all my time for free as a volunteer. As a student therapist, I will be working under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, Dr. Nadia Torres-Eaton. So, the reason we will be asking for a small co-pay is to cover the cost of my supervision. I’m fundraising to be able to provide financial aid for any families who may not be able to afford the out-of-pocket cost of therapy. Also, I hope that the more I fundraise, we could reduce the cost of care even more!

I know that starting therapy with someone new can feel scary! My goal in our first session is just to get to know you as the person you are and begin to build trust in our relationship. Due to my background as a nurse and a palliative care counselor, I am comfortable in sharing whatever space that makes you feel most comfortable. I want to meet you where you are- wherever that may be. As a pediatric oncology nurse, I am also comfortable with the language of childhood cancer and have witnessed first-hand the trauma that every family enduring this process faces. My hope is that as our relationship builds, I can provide you with a brave space to explore your experiences and be a safe person with whom to process and reflect.

I have extensive experience with families in every stage of the childhood cancer journey, whether that be new diagnosis, active treatment, relapse, survivorship, or bereavement. I am passionate about serving every person impacted by the diagnosis because I know that the diagnosis does not just impact the child, so I am available to see children, siblings, adolescents & young adults, parents, couples, and families.
