Save our Rescue: Help Mustangs MEND Relocate and Continue Healing Work
Since our founding in 2017, Mustangs MEND has served as a sanctuary for both horses and humans in need of healing. Long before it became trendy, we were out at the auctions, pulling at-risk and orphaned foals, neglected seniors, and discarded horses — giving them a second chance at life. Over the years, we’ve dedicated countless hours, sleepless nights, and personal sacrifice to ensure these animals not only survive but thrive.
But our mission extends far beyond the horses. Through our programs, we’ve welcomed children with developmental disabilities, chronic illnesses, and terminal conditions, along with individuals battling depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other emotional challenges. We’ve seen firsthand the profound, healing bond between horse and human — and the way these animals can bring calm, courage, and connection to those navigating life’s hardest seasons.
We’ve even offered the services of our nursemare for orphaned foals whose own mothers were lost too soon, helping those vulnerable babies find comfort, nourishment, and a fighting chance at life. And while many rescues focus on the young and adoptable, we currently care for a half dozen horses over the age of 25 — souls considered undesirable in today’s horse economy due to their age or chronic, but manageable, medical conditions. These gentle elders deserve love, safety, and dignity, and we’re honored to give them exactly that.
We made it through the pandemic, when many similar organizations had to close their gates for good. And now, as we approach our 10-year milestone, we find ourselves in one of the most difficult and urgent seasons we’ve ever faced.
Just as we believed we’d found a perfect, permanent home for our operations — a location ideal for our horses and the people we serve — we’ve been hit with a devastating blow. An outdated, convoluted city code in our equestrian-zoned neighborhood is forcing us to move because our land lacks a residential dwelling. It’s unfair, it’s sudden, and it’s financially crushing.
Moving an entire horse rescue isn’t simple. It means relocating our herd, dismantling and rebuilding stalls, shelters, pipe corrals, and securing a new safe space where our life-changing work can continue. These expenses are daunting — made even heavier by the fact that our founder and executive director, who personally funds much of our operation, is currently recovering from major surgery following the removal of a tumor from her head and the full reconstruction of the affected areas.
Right now, the rescue needs our community’s help more than ever to move forward, while our founder continues to guide us toward a new, safe home for our horses and the people we serve. The weight of this move, combined with her recovery, makes this an incredibly challenging time for us — but with your help, we can get through it together.
This past winter has been brutal for us — physically, financially, and emotionally. And now, in this critical hour, we’re asking our community to rally around us.
We are resilient. We are determined. And we refuse to give up on the horses and humans who need us. But we can’t do it alone.
Every donation matters. Every share makes a difference. Every show of support keeps our mission alive.
If you believe in the power of second chances, in the healing bond between animals and people, and in the importance of grassroots, heart-driven community work — this is the moment to stand with us.
We especially ask anyone who has ever adopted from us, volunteered, participated in our programs, or been touched by our work to please spread the word. Share our posts, tell your friends, and encourage others to get involved.
Literally every single dollar makes a difference — and the good news is, your gift is tax deductible, as we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in good standing with the IRS.
Please help us get through this move, continue our healing work, and secure a safe new home for those who have nowhere else to go.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
