Shmira Public Safety has continued growing and improving this year. Shmira Public Safety is operated by a board of directors, each with several years of public safety and corporate experience. Shmira volunteers participate in a high level continuous training program, that is focused on the core elements of Shmira's program. Those are to provide an overt presence in our community, thus deterring crime and providing much needed information to the police. Shmira Public Safety is a proactive force in keeping our community safe and secure.

In addition to providing a high-visibility presence of trained volunteers in our community, We continued to grow our Shabbos Watch program on Friday nights and holidays, the Shabbos watch program utilizes hired professional armed guards, who provide extra visibility in the areas where people are walking to and from shul as well as escorts when requested. Shmira Public Safety has been focused on increasing its relationships, and working in tandem, with Law Enforcement and other Public Safety organizations in our area. We strongly believe that the more we work together, the more we can all do for our community.

We need your help to take our program to the next level. In order to truly meet the needs of our community, we need to modernize our radio system, purchase new equipment for existing and new members and pay for the general operating expenses of offering the services that we provide to the community for free.

Each and every member of the community, should want to participate in this campaign, at their own level of comfort and ability. Supporting the growth of Shmira Public Safety is a cost effective way to improve the quality of life, and protect our homes, businesses and families.

The word "Shmira" comes from the biblical Hebrew word that means "Safeguarding". From the start, Shmira Public Safety was established as response to the rise in crime, specifically to those that effected the businesses and families of the heavily Jewish populated areas that we primarily serve. We believe that, as active members of community, it is our duty to safeguard our entire community, for all of our residents and guests.

While Shmira Public Safety is primarily funded and staffed out of the Jewish community, we are here to serve our entire community, irrespective of faith or affiliation. Membership is open to all persons (21+), irrespective of gender, race, or religion.
