We believe hardworking, talented independent music artists of any genre or notoriety deserve the opportunity to create and share their art. Their music is valuable to culture and our communities. Therefore, their ability to make music shouldn't be determined by their economic status.

The reality is that independent musicians sacrifice a lot. We’ve talked with countless artists who’ve gone into debt to record an EP, maxed out credit cards to tour, or lived with constant job insecurity just to keep making music for us. Many artists work nonstop to pay bills and save for months (sometimes a year or more) just to record one EP is way more common than people realize.

And yet, artists keep going. They keep pushing forward through the risks to give us music that brings beauty into the world, offers hope, and helps us make sense of life. Musicians feel compelled to create, no matter the cost.

However, this path isn’t sustainable. It leads to musicians experiencing burnout, depression, and stepping away from their craft. So many incredible songs never get recorded or heard simply because the artist couldn’t afford it.

Music is more than entertainment. Music builds community, shapes culture, and helps us heal. Songs have the power to help us therapeutically with our mental health, process life's toughest moments, and give us perspectives that shape our spirituality and connection to life. Music helps us relive the beautiful experiences and memories we have with the people we love.

What Your Support Helps Us Achieve

Due to the rising cost of living, the financial barriers for artists to record new original music are deepening and preventing amazing songs from being produced and shared. We believe that a lack of funding, resources, and opportunities should not get in the way of making and sharing high-quality art.

To help address this issue, this program provides independent music artists with FREE Full-Day Recording Sessions AND Live-In-Studio Video Packages at professional recording studios to help musicians sustain their artistry and build their careers. (Watch Video)

Music is a reflection of the human experience and has helped many of us heal from the hardships life can bring. We believe music is one of the most therapeutic and community-building art forms humanity has created. We wanted to show the public that music can be utilized to help both individuals and communities heal.

Through this series, we provide music artists with a platform to discuss how they use music therapeutically to maintain their mental health, heal from trauma, and manage the stress that comes from life's challenges. (Watch Video)

Since music is tied closely with culture, we wanted to create a music experience that encourages people from different communities to come together through their appreciation of live music.

This program provides FREE, thoughtfully curated, multi-genre concerts at independent music venues that are open to the general public. Each concert provides patrons with the opportunity to explore several different genres/styles of music (including Mexican Regional, R&B, Rap, Rock, and Folk) on one lineup. Many of the artists performing at these showcases are alumni from our Play It Forward Sessions Program.

About Music Neighbors

Founded in 2015 by Chelsea & Jason Garriott, Music Neighbors is an artist-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit music incubator that empowers independent music artists from any genre to create and share new songs with the public. Our programs provide free artist development resources (including free recording sessions) to help musicians professionally level up their artistry, grow their fanbases, and build their careers.

Our staff uses their artistry of filmmaking to help artists create high-quality assets to showcase their songs professionally to their fans, music industry professionals, and media outlets.
