WE DESERVE TO LIVE!

From the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade to the War on Drugs, Black people, Indigenous people, & People of Color (BIPOC) have fought for peace and the freedom to live for as long as we can remember. We are tired. The chronic stress, recurring trauma, and systemic degradation that has plagued generations of Black and Brown folks must come to an end. We believe that our legacies are and will be greater than our ability to survive. Our mission at MRCI ("mercy") is to promote the wholistic recovery of Black and Brown folks through harm and stress reduction + positive social interactions. Through this fundraising effort, our goal is to take the the next step in furthering our mission by creating our first mobile wellness unit.

WE DESERVE TO REST.

As Founders, we (Natasha Cheatham and Iisha Wesley) created Minority Recovery Collective Inc. (MRCI), also known as "Mercy", to turn our pain into purpose. As two young women in recovery we are determined to create as many safe, restful spaces as necessary for ourselves and our community to heal and thrive despite the barriers we face.

We created this organization to stand in the gap for the traditionally exploited and those considered "the least of these." We noticed a need for programs, services, and spaces that supported one's healing journey + treatment plan, as well as cultural heritage and influences. What started out as a way to support our loved ones and ourselves in our respective recovery journeys, has since grown into a full ministry to honor the memories and legacies of our ancestors and those we've lost along the way.

AND SO WE WILL.

The goal of this fundraiser is to make essential resources and services more readily available by taking them directly to those we serve. We will purchase a sprinter van to create the first of four mobile wellness units. Our aim is to create more opportunities for young people and young professionals in our community to discover new pathways to worling in behavioral, mental, and public health sectors respectively. We hope to encourage more people to discover and work within their purpose. Our mobile wellness unit is a peer-led solution to improve access to quality mental health services, recovery support, and harm reduction resources.

OUR IMPACT

Being a member of MRCI is transformative - some of our fellows (those we serve) and members have never known what it is to be free to just be, to simply live. Our peer education offerings, weekly group wellness checks, 1:1 peer support sessions, and sober socials help make that possible by connecting them to life changing experiences and information.

Our programs and services combine accountability, fellowship, and mentorship to help those we serve to grow into productive members of the community. Fellows and members alike are able to see a greater world, their personal potential, and the direct impact of collaboration and dedication. These are skills we all will carry with us on our journeys of healing and recovery, which will enable us to build a better future and live the life we dare to dream.
