2024-2025 Orchestra Fundraising

We are so pleased that you are considering sponsoring the talented students who participate in MSD Martinsville orchestras. We are comprised of eight ensembles across four school: Charles Smith Fine Arts Elementary, Bell Intermediate Academy, John R Wooden Middle, and Martinsville High School with around 150 members

Charles Smith Fine Arts Academy Elementary School, started an after school program for students in grades 2-3-4 called, "Suzuki Strings." This class teaches the violin only in a group setting once a week.  They perform 3-4 concerts a year and a recital.  This program relies heavily on donations and costs students on $25 for a session, the school year consists of three sessions. We hope to expand this program in 2025-26 to another elementary school in Martinsville as well as offer year two to current students and teach fifth grade Suzuki Strings during the school day. Students learn music by ear, memorization, and rote learning. There are currently 25 students enrolled in this program.

Bell Intermediate Academy has two separate beginning orchestras called, Blue and Red 6th grade Strings. They meet separately, but perform most of their concerts together as one large group. These students meet daily for around 35 minutes.  They have 5-6 concerts/school convocations a year and partake in one contest. The students work on basic beginning string orchestra playing and reading music skills for violin, viola, cello, and double bass.  There are 38 students enrolled in this program.

John R Wooden Middle School Orchestras, consist of two district groups: Mozart Intermediate Strings and Mancini Advanced Strings and have both 7th and 8th graders in each class.  These classes meet daily for approx 55 minutes. There are 55 students in orchestra at Wooden Middle. These students focus on playing beginning to intermediate playing/reading skills as well as orchestral literature.  These students perform 6-7 concerts per year and two competitions.

Martinsville High School has two performing string orchestras as well as they combine with several advanced concert band members to create a symphony orchestra.  These groups are called: Martinsville Concert Orchestra (an intermediate group of freshman - through seniors), Martinsville Chamber Orchestra (an audition only advanced group -  of freshman - seniors), and Mbrace Symphony (select members of band and orchestra.  These group meet daily for 52 minutes and occasionally after school. There are over 40 strings in the high school groups combined and band students vary depending on the music.

This year the orchestras will travel and perform in Orlando at Walt Disney World along with the band and choir! They have 15-18 concerts a year and four competitions. We are also invested in the Indiana State School Musical Association and have been named an "All School Music Program" last year.  Our chamber orchestra has been invited to perform at Western Kentucky University and the University of Indianapolis this spring. They also have plans to perform at the Kennedy Center in February of 2025.  All Martinsville orchestras received gold ratings at their competitions at the district and state level.

These groups have an excellent tradition of fun, community, and excellence! We love our students and ask for your support to help them on their musical journey.
