The Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) is made up of students between 6th-12th grade who want to make a positive impact on their community. Each year the group learns about topics like volunteering, philanthropy, and serving on a board, while also taking on impactful projects within the community. Over the past 19 years, the group has taken on some amazing projects around Noble County, including (but not limited to) the following:

Lighting the walking path at Bixler Park
Installing a new tornado siren to ensure community safety
Hosting an annual festival to celebrate cultural diversity
Activating a blighted alley by turning it into a beautiful and useful community space
Helping to coordinate the Save the Strand Theatre campaign
Collecting items for those in need, such as the Humane Shelter, Noble House, and the Appletree Center
Installing a new, artistic (cake whisk) bike rack in downtown Kendallville

This year, MYAC has selected three (3) community projects that they are interested in tackling. Please take a moment to vote for the project YOU'D like to see them complete by making a financial contribution to your favorite one. By voting this way, we are ensuring that the selected project has community buy-in and support, along with sufficient funds to be completed within the school year.

Here's a little bit about each project:

Project Crosswalk: This project would include an “art contest” presented to local organizations, giving them the opportunity to design and paint a decorative crosswalk in downtown Kendallville. There are 12 total crosswalks included as part of the project. Painted crosswalks not only transform the look of downtown but have also been proven to increase the safety of pedestrians.

Supplies will be provided to participating organizations, and crosswalks will be judged for one 1st place winner ($500 to their charity of choice).

Project Bixler: In an effort to further beautify our local park system, this project would include taking on a number of improvement efforts, including (but not limited to) the following tasks, on behalf of the Kendallville Parks Department:

Pressure washing the tennis courts
Removing graffiti from park pavilions
Painting parking lines in various lots at Bixler
Helping to install newly purchased playground equipment

Project Billboard: In an effort to increase the number of visitors who stop in Kendallville to eat, shop, and explore; this project would design & update one or more area billboards to attract more people to our local events and assets.

Billboards make a lasting impression, generate interest in a business or area, and spark positive feelings and emotions.
