Growing up, I always questioned why many of the laws in the United States meant to protect us were so often ignored when it came to marginalized and minority groups such as Muslims, and how the system was almost built in a way in which those who oppressed us were uplifted within our society. As I entered High School and expanded my knowledge on Civic Action and the legal system through programs such as Mock Trial and advocacy within my community, especially around important issues such as the genocide in Palestine and the defunding of the Department of Education, I realized that these laws could be changed to encompass my community of Muslims as well, and guarantee our rights. Now as I enter my senior year in August, I want to have a clear goal in mind of how I'm going to make these changes, and what it's going to take to implement them. I believe that MYLP would be an amazing opportunity for me to expand on my capabilities and become closer to reaching my dreams of becoming someone who has the power to make the lives of countless people in America both better and safer, especially during times like these.
