In Memory of Marigold

A puppy whose heart touched everyone who met her

Marigold came to Leia’s Hope from a puppy mill — a place that had given her little more than survival. From the moment she arrived, it was clear she was something special. At just over three pounds, she was lively, affectionate, and full of personality. She adored her snuggle pup, loved to play, and had a spark that made everyone who met her smile.

When we learned she had a serious heart defect called a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), we promised her that she would have every chance at a long and happy life. She underwent delicate surgery at the University of Missouri Veterinary Hospital, surrounded by experts and love from near and far. Despite her strength and the care she received, complications arose that her small body couldn’t overcome.

Losing Marigold was heartbreaking. She was deeply loved, and her absence left a quiet ache in all of us. But her story didn’t end there.

In her honor, and because of the kindness of an extraordinary supporter who stepped forward when we needed it most, we created The Marigold Memorial Fund — a fund that ensures her legacy continues through other dogs who need life-saving medical care.

Marigold’s light lives on in every dog whose heart is healed, in every second chance we can now say “yes” to, and in every act of compassion her story inspires.

She may be gone, but her memory beats on — one heartbeat at a time. 💛
