The Mark F. Bohne Memorial Fund

Mark F. Bohne, 70, of Broadalbin, NY, died unexpectedly at his home on September 4, 2025.

He was born on Staten Island and later moved to Broadalbin. Mark graduated from Broadalbin High School in 1972, and went on to earn mechanical, electrical and industrial engineering degrees. Mark was a lifelong member of the Society of Professional Engineers.

He served his country as a Boarding Officer in the United States Coast Guard. Mark designed limousines, funeral coaches, heating and air conditioning systems, and developed lamp making factories along the Pacific Rim. He spoke a smattering of Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Mark ultimately retired from the Olympus Medical Division as the plant facilities manager for endoscopic equipment. He served on the NASA Nuclear Decommissioning Board, as the co-chair for the Army Corp of Engineers Restoration Advisory Board and as a member of the Governor’s Brownfield Reclamation Advisory Panel. Mark also taught electronics for Bowling Green State University and was a strong proponent for the environment. Thirteen manufacturing patents were issued for work he designed and developed for his employers. Mark held a patent in his own name for a water purification system, that operated using a car battery and could be easily transported anywhere in the world. Limited use was sold to the United Nations for $1.00 so it could be used in remote African countries for safe potable and drinkable water.

Mark had a quick wit, a beautiful baritone singing voice, the Irish gift of gab, and he could pen a letter to the editor against social injustices on a monthly basis. He will be deeply missed.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Allen Robert Bohne, former Fulton County Treasurer; his mother, Helen Elizabeth Clohessy Barnes Bohne; his brother, James Allen Bohne; and his sister-in-law, Marjorie Anne Gordon Bohne.

Mark is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jan; his son, Matthew (Erin); and his grandson, Isaac. He also left behind his beloved Biewer Terrier, Phebe “Joy” Vanderbilt and Marjorie Bohne’s West Highland Terrier, Candy Cane.

Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 3PM at Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery with Pastor Cheryl Thorne, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert W. Chambers Mansion & Park, Inc. 150 Hilltop Rd, Broadalbin, NY 12025. Arrangements are by Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., Johnstown.
