Michael Ty was a beautiful force in our community and the culinary world. There was never a need for recognition, as Michael Ty quietly did what he loved to do in support of community and his passion for the culinary arts.
Planting the seeds… It all started at the American Culinary Federation’s National Convention in 1989, where he and a group of members from Las Vegas first heard about Chef and Child, a nonprofit organization that helps feed children in need. They knew immediately that Las Vegas needed a program like this. They connected with the University of Nevada Reno, Extension, who were instrumental in creating and providing nutrition education programming, and getting access to the schools in which they would serve. To help support their efforts, they starting an annual dinner, raising money by auctioning off private home dinners made by some of Las Vegas’ most talented chefs. Alongside an entire community of supporters, Chefs for Kids started cooking!
Thank you Michael Ty! đź’™ An inspiration to all and mentor to many.
