Did you know that in Michigan and many other places, insurance coverage for certain aspects of childbirth, such as alternative birth settings, may be limited or nonexistent? This means that families, including single mothers, are responsible for bearing 100% of the costs associated with these choices. Unfortunately, this creates a financial burden for many birthing individuals, who may have to take time off work before the baby arrives and often face inadequate or no compensation during their postpartum recovery period. These challenges can cause undue stress and inequity within families. At Milk Like Mine, we are dedicated to promoting equity in healthcare and advocating for birth justice. While we strive to offer support where we can, we also rely on community contributions to expand our impact. We recognize that families in our community face various barriers to accessing quality care, including issues like copays, inadequate resources for newborns, and personal care needs during the postpartum period. Although all our services are provided free of charge, the grants we receive help ensure their sustainability. However, we currently lack designated funds to address these specific needs, often requiring us to reallocate resources from other areas. That being said, we strongly encourage you to consider donating to our fundraiser, as every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference.
