Story
A loving blend of Hanukah and Christmas traditions, The Christmas Mitzvah encapsulates the generous spirit of both holidays, doing good for others (aka Mitzvahs).
Inspired by the true story of a man and his son who generously volunteered to work for a stranger on Christmas Eve, so that they could celebrate the holiday with their family. A tradition that continued for over 30 years and inspired others. Through its lively illustrations by Michelle Laurentia Agatha this heartwarming story celebrates our diversity, highlights the importance of turning kindheartedness into action, and gently reminds us what it means to embrace a life well lived.
Jeff Gottesfeld has written for page, stage, and screen, and recently turned his talents towards writing inspiring picture book stories of unsung heroes. Jeff previously visited (virtually) the Lafayette Library reading Twenty-One Steps: Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and No Steps Behind: Beate Sirota Gordon’s Battle for Women’s Rights in Japan. Recordings of both stories can be found on the Library’s Youtube channel.
