The video above shows a tiny fraction of the 3-year journey of recording my album Modulate With Me with some of my many wonderful collaborators at various pro and home studios across the West Coast. It ends with the choir singing a cappella to the track you hear written by me, which is entitled "Heart Break Open".

MODULATE WITH ME

I’ve been developing my sophomore full-length album Modulate With Me for the past three (ish) years, and I’m now in the final stretch: completing background vocals, finalizing arrangements, and moving into mixing and mastering. This funding would directly support the completion of those final stages and help bring this deeply personal, collaborative, and genre-spanning project into the world with the care it deserves.

Modulate With Me is a ritualistic art and music experience exploring the aftermath of lost love, ego death, heartbreak, identity shifts, and the passage of time. The idea of modulation serves as a metaphor for evolution, and the hope that those you love can grow with you. The album is designed as a 16-song body of work, to be released over the next year in four chapters of four songs each.

The project began at an artist residency in New Orleans, where I brought a suitcase full of old journals. Over time, I unearthed lyrics and melodies from these pages, mailing the journals home as I went—literally and spiritually lightening my load. What emerged is a collection of songs that reflect both my personal voice and what I hear as a “Seattle sound” filtered through my lived experience.

The music itself is at times fun and playful, raw and exposed, yet always heart-centered and genre-expansive. I’ve worked with an incredible range of collaborators including Adra Boo, Rizo, Devonne Lewis, Eric Vanderbilt-Mathews, Will Mapp, Kate Copeland, Halley Greg, Craig Flory, David Salonen, Jay Battle, Dave Dalton, Mike Sylvester, Andrew Imanaka, Peter Kruise, Jerome Smith, Raktachu Echo-Hawk, and more.

For this album I’ve committed to compensating all my collaborators as fairly as possible—a value that’s made this process slower and more expensive, but also more grounded in integrity and care. Funding would directly support the final production stages—paying engineers, musicians, and mixing/mastering professionals—so that I can release this work with the sonic quality and spirit it deserves.
