If you've been blessed this year, consider blessing the blind with the gift of independence.
"Leaving my house can be intimidating, scary, and frustrating all at the same time. I don't know who is around to even ask for help, which adds to the anxiety. I usually need to trust my gut, rely on my cane and hope for the best, but the Hearsee system actually tells me what I need to know to feel safe and comfortable in public.
This tech is so cool- it would make a huge difference in my life to use it everywhere!" - Joey Montague, 36
We're asking you to support the blind community, which may feel out of the blue. There's a reason for that:
Utah is home to 60,000 legally blind citizens, but many are too self-conscious or overwhelmed to go out in public regularly. The blind community created their own solution to this problem: an indoor/ outdoor navigation system.
Hearsee's navigation system uses RFID stickers and a smart walking cane to describe any environment for the blind, giving them step-by-step directions to walk from one spot to another and a description of what is on display around them.
Placing RFID stickers in areas around town will revolutionize life for our blind friends, allowing them to safely and confidently visit new places without relying on sighted people for help.
If you've been blessed this year, we urge you to bless others. Generous support of Hearsee's navigation system will allow us to place RFID stickers around town and provide smart walking canes to our blind friends and neighbors free of charge!
