Congressional votes are public. Campaign contributions are public. Supreme Court decisions are public. Presidential appointments are public. Government salaries are public. Oversight hearings, legislation, court decisions, financial records, and thousands of other government documents are public.

But they are scattered across countless databases, agencies, court records, government websites, reports, and archives.

Finding one piece of information can be easy.

Understanding the complete record can be extraordinarily difficult.

CAN 2026 is being built to change that.

One Place. The Record. The Sources.

CAN 2026, Constitutional Accountability Now, is an independent, nonpartisan public-interest initiative building a comprehensive, source-linked record of the people and institutions that govern the United States.

We collect public information.

We verify it.

We organize it.

We connect it.

And wherever possible, we take you back to the original source so you can examine the evidence yourself.

We don’t want you to have to trust us.

We want you to be able to check us.

Start With Congress

The first major objective is ambitious:

Build a comprehensive record of the United States Senate and House of Representatives.

For individual members and institutions, CAN 2026 is being designed to bring together information that would otherwise require searching multiple sources.

That includes legislative and voting records, major policy decisions, campaign financing and donor information, oversight activity, biographical information, compensation, and the primary documentation supporting the record.

The 2026 elections make this information particularly important.

But CAN 2026 is not being built for one election.

The election is a starting point.

The record continues after Election Day.

Follow the Money

How someone votes tells us something.

Understanding who financially supports elected officials can tell us something else.

CAN 2026 incorporates campaign-finance and donor information so citizens can examine political contributions alongside the public record of the officials receiving that support.

The purpose is not to claim that a contribution caused a particular vote.

It is to put relevant public information in the same place and allow people to examine the record for themselves.

The Presidency and the Cabinet

Presidents do much more than sign legislation.

They determine the direction of the executive branch and select the people entrusted with enormous federal authority.

CAN 2026 documents presidential administrations, including Cabinet selections and other significant appointments, so those choices can be examined across administrations rather than viewed in isolation.

That allows the same standards to be applied regardless of which party controls the White House.

The Courts

The federal judiciary can shape American law for generations.

CAN 2026 includes the Supreme Court and is being developed to incorporate the broader federal judiciary.

For the Supreme Court, that includes significant decisions and how individual justices voted.

The larger objective is to make judicial records and relevant supporting information easier for citizens to find and understand without telling them what conclusion they are supposed to reach.

What Does Government Pay the People Who Hold Its Power?

CAN 2026 also documents publicly available compensation for major positions within the federal government.

That includes:

· President

· Vice President

· U.S. Senators

· Members of the U.S. House of Representatives

· Supreme Court Justices

· Federal judges

· Cabinet members

Compensation is only one part of the record, but it belongs in the record.

What Did They Actually Do?

CAN 2026 is also developing records around consequential areas of government policy.

Environmental legislation and regulatory actions are among the areas already represented.

Rather than simply labeling someone “pro-environment” or “anti-environment,” for example, the better approach is to show the legislation, explain what it did, show how the member voted, and provide the documentation.

Show the record and let people decide what they think about it.

That principle extends far beyond environmental policy.

Accountability Is Also About What Government Doesn’t Do

This is one of the most important parts of CAN 2026.

Government accountability isn’t limited to recorded votes.

Congress has investigative and oversight authority.

Executive agencies have enforcement responsibilities.

Courts have judicial authority.

Officials occupy positions carrying specific powers and responsibilities.

Sometimes those powers are exercised.

Sometimes they are delayed.

Sometimes they are declined.

And sometimes they simply aren’t used.

CAN 2026 is building a documented record of both action and consequential inaction where government authority and responsibility can be established.

That distinction matters.

Nonpartisan Has to Mean Something

Calling something nonpartisan is easy.

Operating that way is harder.

Our standard is straightforward:

Same evidence. Same methodology. Same rules. Regardless of party.

Republican.

Democrat.

Independent.

Conservative justice.

Liberal justice.

Republican administration.

Democratic administration.

Incumbent.

Challenger.

If reliable evidence establishes something, we document it.

If the evidence doesn’t establish it, we don’t present it as fact.

If something remains unknown, we say so.

And when the source is publicly available, we show you where it came from.

Federal First. Then All 50 States.

What we are building at the federal level is intended to become the foundation for something considerably larger.

Imagine being able to select your state and examine the people exercising governmental power there using the same structured approach.

State House.

State Senate.

State government.

State judiciary.

Voting records.

Public actions.

Compensation.

Accountability.

Sources.

Fifty states built around a common documentation standard.

That’s the longer-term objective.

Funding determines how quickly we can get there.

CAN 2026 is not a proposal sitting on a drawing board.

The work has begun.

The website exists.

The research systems are being developed.

Federal records are being assembled.

Senate data is being built state by state.

Supreme Court information is being incorporated.

Presidential and Cabinet records are being developed.

Government compensation information is being assembled.

Voting records on significant environmental actions are already represented.

And behind what the public sees, we are developing the research, verification, and data architecture necessary to make a much larger system possible.

We have started building the foundation.

Now we need the resources to scale it.

We are not controlled by a political party, candidate, campaign, government agency, or political organization.

Supporters fund the work.

They do not determine what the work finds.

They do not buy favorable coverage.

They do not determine which facts get published.

They do not get a different evidentiary standard because we agree with them.

That independence is not incidental to CAN 2026.

It is essential to it.

What legislation did they support?

Who contributed to their campaigns?
