My birthday is coming up on October 13th, and I’ve decided to celebrate by supporting Psychologists of Color, Inc. — a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the racial & ethnic diversity of the psychologist workforce by supporting future and current psychologists of color.

My goal is to raise $4,000 in honor of my 40th birthday.

Your contributions will directly support our new Mentorship program. With only 16% of psychologists in the USA identifying as BIPOC, we recognize the importance of the mentor/mentee relationship in cultivating more psychologists of color. Having a mentor is crucial for a psychologist of color as it provides a unique perspective and insight into the challenges and experiences faced by BIPOC individuals in the mental health field. A mentor can offer guidance and support while navigating systemic racism and discrimination within the profession. Additionally, they can provide valuable cultural proficiency training and mentorship on how to approach multicultural clients with sensitivity and understanding. Furthermore, a mentor can serve as a role model, inspiring individuals to further their career and achieve their goals within the field. Overall, having a mentor allows for the development of a strong foundation for personal and professional growth in the mental health field and will further lead to an increase in the amount of psychologists of color in the field.

Your birthday gift will help offer a proactive solution to the shortage of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color psychologists nationwide, promote the elevation of successful mental health careers for racial and ethnic minorities, and thereby reduce barriers to accessible and effective mental health treatment for members of marginalized communities.In honor of my birthday, I am asking my friends and family to make tax-deductible donations to Psychologists of Color, Inc.
