People are going hungry in McDonough County, Illinois, and demand for food pantry services is high.

In 2024, over 2,000 individuals living in McDonough County were able to choose groceries for their family through the Good Food Pantry program at WIRC-Community Action Agency. Every eligible person is welcome to shop through our grocery aisles to choose free food items for their family. This choice-based model of service is empowering and respectful of dietary allergies/restrictions and culture.

To meet demand, the Pantry purchases on average $5,000 worth of food commodities from our suppliers every month.

BUT, our funding is limited.

A portion of our funding comes from the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). In 2025, we have approximately 7 months' worth of funding to purchase food.

The remaining 5 months' worth of funding is up to us to fundraise or receive through community grants. Our goal is to raise $25,000 in 2025.
