Celebrating Older Americans Month: Powered by Connection

Millions of older Americans suffer from loneliness and social isolation. This May, Older Americans Month's theme, "Powered by Connection," focuses on the profound impact that meaningful connections have on the well-being and health of older adults — a relationship underscored by the U.S. Surgeon General's Advisory on the Healing Effects of Social Connection and Community.

It's not just about having someone to chat with. It's about the transformative potential of community engagement in enhancing mental, physical, and emotional well-being. By recognizing and nurturing the role that connectedness plays, we can mitigate issues like loneliness, ultimately promoting healthy aging for more Americans.

Westside Pacific Villages is embracing this theme and powering its Village by connection by spreading the word about mental, physical and emotional health benefits of social connection, promoting opportunities to engage, and connecting more neighbors with neighbors and support! Friend of WPV - Become a Friend of WPV and stay connected with the Village while also supporting the vision to create a world where all people flourish and grow as they age, strengthening care and support in the community to combat the loneliness epidemic and support healthy aging. For less than $10/month*, your continued support as a Friend of WPV makes you a key part of our Village's social community where you can attend any of our WPV Community events and social activities to connect with other older adults in our Village, other Friends of WPV, and our volunteer neighbors who drive our organization and services! Donate - Every dollar counts, so if you aren't interested in supporting as a Friend of WPV, being part of the Village Movement and WPV's social community; we welcome any support as it helps us further our mission, and still would love to connect with you.
WPV Picnic in the Park - We hope to recruit many new Friends of WPV throughout the month of May to further strengthen WPV's social community; and are celebrating with a Picnic in the Park at Burton Chace Park on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11:30AM - 1:30PM PT. Come join us, and bring your own lunch, on the last day of Older Americans Month, as we celebrate and forge new connections with each other! We kindly ask that you email us at RSVP@thewpv.org or call our office and provide us your name, phone, and email if you are planning on attending.
Volunteer - We also value and recognize different ways of support in the Village, on top of monetary contributions! After all, Westside Pacific Villages is a volunteer-driven organization connecting older adults with their neighbors to enable them to live active, healthy, engaged lives while remaining in their homes. We provide many benefits including transportation, chores, companionship and social activities.
