Melanie Williams is a community advocate on child welfare, juvenile justice, and improving race

relations. Melanie worked with MORE years ago on the child welfare report that challenged the

apartheid nature of child welfare in Douglas County and the state of Nebraska. Melanie interacted

with community organizations, including Black Men United, where she and her husband ran a youth

chess club. Melanie will talk about the challenges she faces running for Congress in the second

district and her strong opposition to the genocide that is being practiced against the Palestinians in

Gaza.

We will also raise concerns about these fly-by-night suburban Beckys and Karens running for office

and having no significant social capital with People of Color, only to parade out their friends who can’t

transform the conditions for the oppressed families and low-income members of the community. It’s

amazing that the democratic party, according to many, has insignificant community engagement

because of the limited mentality, lazy personalities, and scope of not addressing grasstop issues that

we can’t measure progress from the victims of American Democracy. We are in the worst of times,

and there is a need to distinguish between those who do and those who mail out glossy flyers with no

substance, and those with boots on the ground in the battle for racial equality. Moreover, the

democratic operatives are running campaign ads to confuse the issues by citing single issues, and

there are a host of significant challenges to the oppressors and People of Color. We will discuss

those strawmen.
