A little more about Heather...

Heather has served as Director of Northfield Community Nursery School since 2012 and during this time she has become a beloved fixture of the Northfield Community. Here in Northfield, she has established a preschool garden, facilitated a community of caring and now during this pandemic has created an exceptional safe and loving environment for young learners.

Heather ends her career in early childhood education and heads into retirement with her husband and family. We would love to send her off with a beautiful tribute to our greened thumb preschool leader with a tree planted in her honor and a beautiful Tribute video with friends and colleagues from her career and time at NFCNS.

Since 1988, Heather Burns has influenced young minds. In that time, has filled many rolls including preschool teacher, supervisor at Kohl Children’s Museum, and Parent Services Coordinator at the DuPage YWCA Childcare Resource and Referral Agency. She has also worked as Early Childhood Program Manager for the Glencoe Park District. Heather holds a B.S in Speech and Language Pathology from Northwestern University and a M.Ed. from National-Louis University, and is a member of the planning committee for the Inspiring Nature Play conference held annually at the Chicago Botanic Garden.
