Music that Transcends: NGSO’s 2025–2026 Season

The Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra (NGSO) proudly presents its 2025–2026 season, Music that Transcends—a bold celebration of the power of music to move beyond boundaries of genre, generation, and geography. With a dynamic lineup of professional symphonic concerts, engaging family programs, inspiring youth performances, and intimate chamber music experiences, this season reflects NGSO’s unwavering dedication to artistic excellence and meaningful community connection. Audiences of all ages are invited to join us for a season that uplifts, educates, and unites through the universal language of music.

NGSO @ The Midland Theatre

The cornerstone of the NGSO’s season features four mainstage evening concerts at the historic Midland Theatre in downtown Newark:

  • A Cosmic Voyage: The Planets in Concert – Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 PM
    Embark on a celestial journey as the NGSO performs Holst’s The Planets, paired with stunning visual storytelling and educational partnerships that bring the universe to life.
  • A Very Merry Holiday Pops! – Sunday, December 7 at 7:00 PM
    A festive tradition for all ages, this joyful concert includes beloved holiday classics featuring the Granville and Newark High School Choirs in a heartwarming celebration of the season.
  • American Movie Classics – Saturday, February 21 at 7:30 PM
    Relive the magic of Hollywood’s golden age through iconic film scores that celebrate the power of music in cinema. Music from Hook, Robin Hood, Pirates of the Caribbean and MORE!
  • Season Finale – Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 PM
    The Season Finale will celebrate American composers with a diverse program. The concert will feature George Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F Major, performed by internationally acclaimed pianist Dr. Caroline Hong. The NGSO will also highlight contemporary music with the world premiere of Un baiser, composed by GRAMMY® nominated composer Ben Shirley, featuring vocal soloist Shawna Corder. The program concludes with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, a joyful and lyrical tribute to nature and folk heritage—a perfect finale for a season grounded in discovery and connection.

Family Concerts @ The John Gilbert Reese Center John & Mary Alford Performing Arts Hall

NGSO’s Family Concert Series offers engaging, interactive performances that introduce younger audiences to the joy of live music:

  • Under the Sea: A Musical Adventure – Sunday, November 2 at 4:00 PM
    A playful and immersive ocean-themed program perfect for kids and families.
  • The Story of Babar, the Little Elephant – Sunday, March 22 at 4:00 PM
    The timeless children’s story comes to life with music, narration, and delightful visuals.

Tunes & Tales @ Licking County Library

This beloved free community program returns for its 8th season, featuring NGSO musicians in small ensemble performances at the Downtown Newark Library. Held monthly on the third Saturday at 10:30 AM (September through April), these concerts combine storytelling and live music to spark curiosity in young listeners.
