What is the Israeli Emissary (Shlichut) Program?

Shlichut is an outreach program by The Jewish Agency for Israel that brings shlichim (cultural emissaries) from Israel to live and work in the United States. Jewish Federation of New Hampshire partners with the Jewish Agency to bring these young adults from Israel to live and work with us here in New Hampshire.

At the Jewish Federation of New Hampshire, we are deeply committed to nurturing strong bonds within our community and fostering a vibrant Jewish identity. The Shlichut program plays a pivotal role in realizing these goals by bringing Israeli emissaries, or shlichim, to our state to engage with. The word "Shlichut" itself encapsulates the essence of this program, as it translates to "mission" or "sending." These dedicated individuals are sent on a mission of cultural exchange, education, and bridge-building, serving as ambassadors of Israeli culture, values, and experiences. Through their presence and activities, they enrich our community with diverse perspectives, deepening our understanding of Israel and strengthening the bonds between our two communities.

Shlichim serve as valuable resources for educational institutions, synagogues, and community organizations across New Hampshire. They offer unique perspectives on Israeli politics, society, and Jewish identity, enriching classroom discussions, guest lectures, and cultural events. Whether they are leading interactive Hebrew School lessons, young adult gatherings, or facilitating discussions on current events, shlichim bring a dynamic energy and authenticity to our communal spaces.

The presence of shlichim in our community serves as a reminder of the shared values and aspirations that unite us as Jews, regardless of geographical distance. As we engage in dialogue, celebrate holidays, and navigate the complexities of modern Jewish life together, we are reminded of the enduring connections that transcend borders and boundaries. Over the past six years we have been lucky enough to welcome multiple amazing shlichim to NH. They have dedicated themselves to serving our community and enriching our lives in countless ways, and we are profoundly grateful for their contributions. We are lucky to have Guy join us as this program continues to build a bridge to Israel.
