Over the last decade, over 35,000 unaccompanied children have put down roots here in the Garden State, a new home / hogar / منزل / lar /집 / kay.

Faced with the threat of deportation and the rollback of vital protections amid rising anti-immigrant sentiment and a shortage of lawyers specializing in unaccompanied children's immigration cases, the need to step up and serve NJ's young immigrants is more critical now than ever.

As a state-wide legal services and policy advocacy organization dedicated to empowering young immigrants, the New Jersey Consortium for Immigrant Children (NJCIC) works to close the service gaps that harm immigrant children and youth in their daily lives and upend their futures.

We achieve our mission by providing holistic, youth-centered legal representation, driving systemic change to advance immigrant rights, and building community through collaboration and education.

We envision a just and equitable NJ where young immigrants can flourish and lead full, fearless lives.

Why $4,348?

Over the last year, since October 2023, 4,348 unaccompanied children have been released to sponsors in New Jersey. As defined by U.S. law, an unaccompanied child is someone who enters the United States:

Under the age of 18 years old,
Without lawful immigration status, and
Without an accompanying parent or legal guardian.

There is a story to tell beyond legal definitions and behind every number.

The story of a young immigrant,

a young New Jerseyan.

Of a dream that began in a different corner of the world,

a dream that made its way across mountains and rainforests,

a line between motherlands, who we call,

the border.

Across rivers,

grand rivers, like the Hudson,

home to Lady Liberty.
