This year, the NVHS Marching Band came dangerously close to being silenced. Due to teaching allocation cuts, the band/orchestra/choir position was reduced to half-time and our director took a full-time position elsewhere. No one has taken the half-time position, leaving the band, orchestra and choir classes without a dedicated teacher.

Thanks to the support of Principal Macaluso and the efforts of the North Valleys Music Boosters 501 c3, we were able to bring on an incredible and experienced director, Aaron Hines, to run the marching band as an after-school program. We are truly grateful — but we’re now facing serious challenges.

Because we found our director so late, we missed out on holding a band camp and started the season at more than 40 rehearsal hours behind other schools. To catch up, we’ve had to bring in extra staff and volunteers. At the same time, the uncertainty about our program led some students to transfer or opt out of band, leaving fewer families to cover the costs.

The projected cost to run the season is about $15,800 — more than $450 per student. The school’s marching band fee is $250, so that leaves a significant gap. Your donation would help cover:

Student fees
Coaches and staff
Competition entry fees
Music, field drill, and choreography
Props and equipment
Instrument supplies and repairs

Every dollar makes a difference in keeping our band marching, our students performing, building friendships and representing our community with pride. If we exceed our goal we would be able to add bussing to competitions and have funds for festivals and other activities in the spring.
