PUPPETQUEERS is a DIY puppet slam made for the queers (and their allies), by the queers, and for exploring beyond the binaries of puppetry. After great success in Chicago, PUPPETQUEERS has expanded to include a New york branch (PUPPETQUEERS NYC) curated and produced by Victor Ayala (he/they), J. Hann (they/them) and Ash Winkfield (xe/xem/xyr). Our hope at PUPPETQUEERS NYC is to continue the tradition of providing a free event for the queer community and to continue to be able to give a stipend to our queer performers. We will be hosting our inaugural event the first weekend of Pride Month (June 6) and hope to grow toward a quarterly event over the next two years. We are fiscally sponsored by Dixon Place (Open Channels).

PUPPETQUEERS started as a slam in August of 2023 at Dorothy, a local lesbian bar in Chicago. The slam featured 5 performances by queer artists (including founder Lindsey Ball) and the show sold out. In Chicago, PUPPETQUEERS is a FREE and DIY puppet slam dedicated to uplifting and celebrating queer artists working within puppetry. We want to keep it free in NYC!
