Q – Is there a deadline to pre-order my NeSCC specialty license plate?

A – Yes, Northeast State has until June 30, 2025, to collect all names and addresses for the initial plate order, design the artwork, and send all monies collected to the Department of Revenue, Vehicle Services Division for the state of Tennessee.

Q – What information will I need to provide for my NeSCC specialty license plate pre-order?

A – Northeast State will need to collect your name, address, and county as they appear on your current vehicle registration along with your non-refundable $35 pre-order fee.

Q - Does the $35 pre-order fee include the cost of my vehicle registration?

A - No. This is separate from your local vehicle registration fee. The $35 fee is a surcharge for the initial order and production of the NeSCC specialty license plates. Fees are determined by state and local governments, so vehicle registration fees vary by county. Please contact your local county clerk’s office for fees specific to your area.

Q - Does Northeast State receive any money from the NeSCC specialty license plates?

A - Yes! Each year when you renew your specialty plate, the Northeast State Foundation will receive a portion of your registration fee. Fees are determined by state and local governments, so vehicle registration fees vary by county. Please contact your local county clerk’s office for fees specific to your area.

Q – I have paid my $35 pre-order fee for my NeSCC specialty license plate. When can I expect to receive my new plate?

A - Once 1,000 orders have been placed, all pre-orders will be sent to the state with our artwork. The NeSCC specialty license plate will go undergo road testing and then into production. All plates will be shipped to your county clerk's office within four to six months. You will be notified when your plate is ready for pickup at your county clerk’s office.

Q - What happens if we don't reach the 1,000 initial pre-order requirement by the June 30, 2025, deadline?

A - If Northeast State cannot collect the names and monies required for the initial order, we must request an extension through the current legislative session before the June 30, 2025, deadline. If we do not reach the minimum pre-order requirement and do not seek or are not granted an extension, your $35 pre-order fee will be considered a donation to the Northeast State Foundation and the general scholarship fund.

Q - What will Northeast State do with the funds received from newly issued and renewal NeSCC specialty license plates?

A – Funds will be placed in the Northeast State Foundation’s general scholarship fund. These funds will be distributed in the form of student scholarships via the Northeast State General Scholarship Application and the scholarship selection process.

Q - Can I designate how my NeSCC specialty license plate fee is directed?

A - All funds will be placed in the Northeast State Foundation’s general scholarship fund. Should you choose to make a donation to a specific fund or area of interest, please visit https://www.northeaststate.edu/business-community/alumni-and-friends/give-to-northeast-state.html

Q – What impact will my NeSCC specialty license plate order have on Northeast State and the campus community?

A – Your initial order and continued renewal, along with all others, will allow Northeast State’s Scholarship Programs Office to select several additional scholarship recipients each academic year. For a list of Northeast State Foundation scholarships, please visit our Northeast State Foundation Scholarships page.

Q - How do I renew my NeSCC specialty license plate each year?

A – Renewal of all specialty license plates will be handled by the Vehicle Services Division for the state of Tennessee. Your registration renewal may come via mail or email each year, and your renewal can be completed online or in person at your local county clerk’s office.

Q – Can I pre-order more than one NeSCC specialty license plate?

A – Absolutely! Pre-order as many NeSCC specialty license plates as you need for your vehicles.

Q - Will there be a NeSCC specialty license plate for disabled drivers?

A - According to the Vehicle Services Division for the state of Tennessee, this design will not be available as a ‘disabled’ license plate. But you can place a disabled sticker on any NeSCC specialty license plate.
