The SMART Story...

Sacramento Metro Advocates for Rail and Transit is leading advocacy for modern and expanded transit and rail service in the Sacramento region. Organized transit stakeholders are vital to presenting the benefits of transit to our larger community and demanding investment levels from local elected officials that hold the purse strings. Public mass transit is the only transportation mode that has the scale, technology and efficiency to move the most people at one time, increase traveler safety, make our road system perform, save households money, and keep our air breathable and our climate safe.

Since June 2019, SMART has gathered over 300 mass transit and rail stakeholders in our region including business, civic leaders, community organizations, labor, elected officials, and individuals. We harness the power of this wide array of stakeholders to educate local elected officials about the benefits of transit and rail transportation and high priority for investment. We also educate the public about the urgency for bringing the benefits of public mass transportation via our website, social media, e-newsletter and through hosting local candidate forums, organizing constituent meetings with local elected officials, and advocating for greater allocations of public funding toward transit-supportive projects in local municipal budgets and sales tax measures.
