Story
I’m Allison (@all_llison), and I am organizing this urgent ask alongside, Chrysan (@chrysan.themae) and Jessie (@beepboopimmadeofmetal) to ensure that *2* Indigenous Two-Spirit Agender Queers have secure, sustainable permanent housing after enduring years of trauma, homelessness, and estrangement. They have asked to remain anonymous for their protection, so we ask that you respect this as their anonymity does not minimize their need for support. Please read more for some background on who we are organizing for, why we are organizing for them, and what these funds are intended for.
WHO ARE WE ORGANIZING FOR?
They are multifaceted, multidisciplinary community workers, practitioners, artists/musicians, medicine makers (with primary focus on native botany), ancestral workers, and historical/genealogical researchers who are deeply devoted to their work in their Indigenous communities and the ways that they can continue to revitalize Indigenous ways of life, art, ritual, medicine, and keeping of the land.
Their ultimate goal is to have a permanent home into a more rural area, as they currently live in a city. This is the place where they were both born/raised and have lived their entire lives; a place that they have both ancestral and family ties to. The hardships of gentrification have made it harder and harder for them to have the accessibility to housing. They need to have a home, as it is crucial for their ability to continue to reconnect and work with their eIders, relatives, and other Indigenous people within their intertribal community.
WHY ARE WE ORGANIZING FOR THEIR HOUSING?
They have been battling housing insecurity for 3+ years, while navigating abuse and estrangement, stalking/harassment (on social media and irl), and unsafe communal housing environments. All of these experiences have been a huge strain on their mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. One of the pair is also multi-disabled with chronic illnesses, which has been its own struggle to manage. Overall, we have chosen to support these people because of what we have witnessed them experience and our desire to step up and show up for them in the ways we can.
WHAT ARE THESE FUNDS INTENDED FOR?
Our long term objective is to put this couple into permanent housing where they can cultivate a safe space for themselves and other Indigenous people in their community. The funds will go towards aiding this couple in:
• purchasing a home
• furnishings/household items/appliances
• purchasing a vehicle
*Intentions for a vehicle are included because safe, reliable transportation is essential for their ability to return to the city for work, and this would be be supportive to the physical disabilities that one of the people experience.
If you have the means, please support this couple in their journey. They both deserve shelter, recovery, rest, and peace!
To support with more immediate needs, such as temporary housing, food, water, body care, transportation (public transit, Uber/Lyft), etc you can also send donations to the payment options below. Chrysan’s payment information is used to keep anonymity. All funds will be redistributed directly to the couple. Stay tuned for updates!
