Wildfires are closing in on Yancey County, NC—a state of emergency was declared on March 27, exactly six months after Hurricane Helene tore through our communities. That storm left behind thousands of downed trees, creating a dangerous buildup of dry fuel that’s now feeding the fires. Our volunteer firefighters from South Toe, Pensacola, and Hog Hollow are on the front lines, working with outdated radios that make their already risky jobs even more dangerous.
They need new radios now—every second counts when lives, homes, and entire communities are at risk. This is part of our ongoing recovery from Helene, and every dollar raised goes directly to these departments. Please don’t wait—donate today to protect the people who protect us.
Your donation is tax deductible. Thank you for caring about WNC.
