Hi, my name is Serena Song, and I am a high school Junior. OJCYF has been a great organization for me to connect with other Jewish teens around Portland, Oregon, while simultaneously giving back to our community. I have enjoyed learning about the process of grant-making and different secular and non-secular organizations in Oregon that I probably would have not learned about without OJCYF. Recently I had a site visit, via Zoom, where I got to meet with the founder of Brown Hope, Cameron Whitten. Thanks to Cameron, I was able to see effective ways to help heal those who have been affected by historical trauma and racism going on in our country now. I loved learning about Brown Hope, and how they are giving back to our neighbors in need. As someone who is passionate about social justice, I am very grateful to OJCYF for giving me the opportunity to learn more about the topics I am interested in, as well as being able to donate money to a non-profit I care about.
