Event Details

The Barracudas are attempting to swim the length of the Massachusetts coast line in an effort to raise funds for a much needed timing system. 300 miles! Our team consists of 120 swimmers from 11 of the communities that the Greater Lowell YMCA serves. The team is not only a place to improve swim techniques and participate in meets but is a safe and welcoming environment that encourages teamwork and a place to belong.

The Greater Lowell YMCA Barracuda Swim Team is both a YMCA as well as a USA swim team. We incorporate all YMCA philosophies, while promoting the core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The Barracuda Swim Team is dedicated to helping swimmers improve their swimming skills, achieve their goals, and demonstrate the core values. We strive to encourage a lifetime involvement in sports and physical activity, as well as teaching the importance of being a team player.

Our team spans ages 5-18 and covers all levels of competitive swimming.

Did you know?

In 2022 and again this year, the Barracudas have sent qualified swimmers YMCA National Short Course Swimming Championships! Updating equipment like the timing system will help the team continue to remain competitive and help familiarize new swimmers on how USA swim and YMCA meets work. Fundraising necessary to enable the GLYB to remain accessible to all of our swimmers. Please help us in this effort.

Who can participate?

All members of the GLYB can help us get to our goal, not just the Barracudas. It's a great way to have our YMCA community be connected.

All participants need to either register on the GIVEBUTTER site or submit a pledge form to the front desk. The battle to take on the Baystate Coast line will begin with the Barracuda team’s kick off event on March 26 and will be on going through the month of April. Swimmers are able to use the free swim times in April to add to their lap/mileage counts. Challenge yourself- Lets collectively swim around the Baystate! As a community we can swim the length of the state! Fundraiser participation is open to GLYMCA members at large. Each participant will have their laps counted toward our community total. Raising funds to strengthen our community.

Swimmers will work together to earn an altitude trip (if the YMCA swims 300 miles)
