WHO WE ARE:

We are the parents of a daughter with a developmental disability. As she progressed through her educational career, we dreamed of what her next steps would be and how we could make those dreams of gainful employment, social connection, and bring her special gifts to the workforce. She is legally entitled to contribute to this economy as a tax paying citizen, and we wanted to ensure that we created a pipeline for persons like her in our community. Seeing firsthand the need for more meaningful employment opportunities for disabled individuals we created Chapters Coffee Carts. We believe that: One cart, one cup of coffee at a time. We can help build stronger and more inclusive communities.

Vision:

We will provide our employees with professional on-the-job training, so that they may transition into the broader workforce. All employees will be interviewed, given business cards, and will be paid for their work, thus learning the values and pride in working for and earning a paycheck. We will provide job training and mentorship with the supports of certified occupational therapists, speech therapists, coaches, and the additional support of our CEO and jobsite manager, who is a paraprofessional from a special education and integrated classroom. We envision our employees flourishing through their exploration of professional passions ranging from industries such as: hospitality, retail, marketing, event creation and management, blogging and more.

Additionally, by bringing to light the benefits of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), we aspire to create a culture of inclusion, kindness, and empathy to our communities. We seek to do so by creating a beautiful café experience for ALL patrons; as a cart in a local library, we will create our First Chapter. By establishing Chapters in local libraries, we hope to create a culture of inclusion that is established for our youngest patrons and their families, thus advancing empathy, caring, and acceptance from a young age. We seek to capture the families who patronize the libraries and add to the narrative of diversity and inclusion that is woven into the stories that surround us.
