Interfaith Works (IW) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides emergency shelter, supportive housing, essential needs, and employment programs to over 35,000 residents of Montgomery County, MD, every year.

Emergency Shelter

Interfaith Works provides four emergency shelters throughout the County, in addition to a one of a kind Drop-in Center where clients can access free showers, computers, therapeutic groups, and shelters. IW operates the only two year-round Women's shelters in the County and two all gender shelters. Each client receives holistic case management, connections to community resources, and assistance in planning towards permanent housing. Your donation helps provide a safe and welcoming place to stay for hundreds of clients in our shelters.

Employment Programs

The Interfaith Works Vocational Services Program supports and empowers those who are underemployed or unemployed to develop life and career skills for long-term self-sufficiency. Through this comprehensive employment support program, VSP Counselors strengthen the financial stability of individuals and their families. Your donation helps clients become job ready.

Supportive Housing

IW operates a variety of supportive short-term and permanent housing programs throughout the County. IW Community Supportive Housing and Rapid Rehousing are short-term supportive housing options for those who are rebuilding their lives in the community. Staff provide support to families and individuals achieve self-sufficiency. Your donation helps provide support for adults and families across the county working towards housing independence.

Our Shared Supportive Housing and IW Residences programs provide permanent housing options for those who have experienced homelessness and need additional services. Your donation helps provide permanent, safe, and supportive homes for those in need.

Essential Needs

The Essential Needs Center (ENC) connects individuals and families to essential resources. The ENC is home to three IW programs, the Clothing Center, the Food Pantry, and the Connections Program. In this building, IW distributes clothing, home goods, and food, while also providing rental and utility assistance, and connecting clients to other community resources. Your donation helps keep people in their homes and their utilities on.

While Montgomery County, a part of the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, is considered affluent, more than 72,000 residents live on incomes below the Federal poverty line.
