The Oak Fire started on July 22nd, 2022 in the Midpines area of Mariposa County. By the end of the first day the fire had spread to over 4,300 acres and eventually over 18,000 acres was burned along with at least 127 homes.  

Since August, the Alliance has provided case management for more than 200 households directly impacted by the fire, many of whom experienced a total loss of their homes. Each Oak Fire survivor has been assigned a case manager, who has walked with them to ensure they had temporary housing and many of their initial needs met. Through the Fall, case managers and their clients shifted their attention from securing emergency housing to debris clean-up, a process that is nearing completion at the end of 2022. Donation dollars have not been used to fund Case Managers.

As we head into 2023, Oak Fire survivors continue to have needs unmet. These needs vary widely from needing warm clothes in the winter to emergency shelter to help replacing a well or navigating the early stages of their rebuilding process. The Alliance walks with them through all of this. 

In an effort to best coordinate relief efforts and make sure each donated dollar is maximized, The Alliance for Community Transformations continues to  work with other area community organizations, nonprofits, and religious organizations in a group known as the Unmet Needs Council. For our portion alone, the Alliance has funded over $60k to directly meet the needs of survivors things like gift cards, the purchase of water storage tanks, medical devices, and to support new housing needs.
