Who is HBFoL?

The Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library (HBFoL) has served Hermosa Beach for 65 years. Our 501(c)(3) public charity is led by a passionate group dedicated to fostering a love of reading and making our library resources accessible to all.

Program Summary

The Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library (HBFoL) Librarian’s Discretionary Fund will support the agency, independence, and impact of the Hermosa Beach Public Library (HBPL) by empowering the HBPL Librarian to make proactive, beneficial investments in staff, team activities, and community engagements and outreach.

Activities

The Fund’s primary purpose is to support the Hermosa Beach Public Library by providing the HBPL Librarian with the autonomous means to engage in team building and community activities, identify needs, and support initiatives that fall outside the scope of designated grants and LA County Library funding. Examples of eligible uses include:

Community engagement: Source, cultivate, procure, patronize, and steward relationships with Hermosa Beach small businesses (e.g., coffee shops, restaurants, boutique retail, professional services)
Staff support: Staff awards and professional development; expenses incurred above and beyond designated support of professional activities performed while at HBPL
Team building: Investments to motivate, incentivize and reward team members and foster team goodwill, collaboration, and retention
Unexpected opportunities: Time-sensitive opportunities that expand HBPL’s reach or respond to community needs that arise

Funds will be expended at local small businesses, bringing funding back into the community.

Impact

This Fund will support our local Library staff, empower them to build into a stronger team together, and develop partnerships between our Library and local small businesses that will promote Library programs and bring foot traffic back into the community.

$1,000 will strengthen our Library's presence in our community.

The Librarian's Discretionary Fund is about showing support for our dedicated Library staff, and increasing their visibility and presence within the community.
