Nyx is an ex-cart horse, likely a Standardbred or Standardbred cross, rescued from the Shipshewana Auction after years of hard work pulling carts. When he arrived, he wore old cart shoes and carried stiffness through his neck, quiet signs of a long working life.

Nyx often gazes into the distance, as if looking into other realms. Whether this is a trauma response or simply his nature, one thing is certain: he is the definition of a gentle giant.

In one of our favorite moments, Nyx stands calmly as a young visitor brushes him. He lowers his head, softens his posture, and allows connection without hesitation. Nyx makes people feel safe simply by being near them. He has been serving as a father to our young Belgian, Barneby.
