Why I help with Parkinson's?!?
Why do I do this; why does anyone pick a battle they can't win?!?
Sometimes, the battle picks You... that's why I try with all my might to help fight Parkinson's... The disease you can't predict, can't prevent and some people can't escape... There's just too many "can't" words associated with Parkinson's, and I want to help People prove 'em wrong.
Our first slogan at REBOPS said it all;
"When they suggest that you can't, you show 'em that you can!"
As the Founder and C.E.O. (Chief Exercising Officer) of REBOPS, I wanted to challenge all the old ideas people have about Parkinson's and turn 'em on their head.
As a Man who lost my Mother almost 7 years ago to Brain Cancer (after surviving Breast Cancer AND Multiple Sclerosis for decades), I learned that even with my decades of success in Fitness-Training, there were some things you couldn't fight harder and win against. Mom's MS was that way, and so were her Cancers.
However, when I researched and tried to help her, I learned I could help someone else. Parkinson's is the totally Unique disease that when challenged by what I call "diverse-adversity" (working smarter, harder & "different-er"), it's symptoms can be slowed, even reversed.
I've seen it for the last 7 years.
Yeah, Mom was still here when I started this, and she was proud, until her final days.
So, it's almost like I inherited this challenge; I didn't necessarily pick this fight, it seems to have picked me, but from where I stand, it picked the wrong person... I will NEVER quit.
See, My Mom wasn't the only one who died with glioblastoma (Brain Cancer)... So did my Uncle (her Brother). So then, could Brain issues be lurking inside of me? Could it be Parkinson's for Me, & what could I even do about it here & now?
I can just see the Headline;
"Parkinson's: Coming Soon to a Family member near You!"
So, yeah, Brain problems may be one thing that runs in the family, but quitting ain't.
And since I couldn't save her (Mom), well, like Robert Downey Jr said in his role as Iron Man, "If we can’t protect it [the World], you can be damn well sure we’ll avenge it!"
So yeah, that's the answer to "Why do I try to make a difference with Parkinson's Disease?" I want to set an example for each and every one out there who's impacted by it; the Fighters who have it and their caregivers who face it right along side of them. I'm just too skeptical to give in and believe the doubters, and too stubborn to become a quitter.
But, I could use your help...!
Let's give/raise some money to help folks fight their Parkinson's and get the effective training that helps their symptoms and gives some hope. You suggest it, You sponsor me at it, I suppose I'll have to try & do it...but remember I'm almost 60 years old, so go Easy on me.
