The Pilipino Association for Health Careers started through a group of students who recognized the need for a support system among Cal pre-health students. PAHC aims to promote current health issues in and around the Pilipino community, as well as extended communities. We develop a structure of dedicated students to integrate their knowledge, experience, and skills to seek information on various health issues and careers. PAHC provides information and services to aid the Pilipino community especially and, in addition, to all who are health conscious both academically and individually.

This year, the PAHC Benefit Concert (PBC), previously known as the Medical Mission Benefit Concert, will aim to provide funds to local communities to help support programs and initiatives that promote advocacy, well-being, and community care.

The theme for PBC’s 25th year is "Kapit Bisig,” which is interpreted as “hand in hand”. Continuing the conversation of covid from the past two PBC’s, we want to focus on rebuilding community as we slowly transition back and recognize the importance of community care and mutual aid in doing that. We recognize how health is holistic, how it is closely tied with advocacy and other intersections, and that we can work to heal together.

NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR FILIPINO CONCERNS (NAFCON)

NAFCON is a national multi-issue alliance of Filipino organizations, institutions, and individuals that responds to the concerns of Filipinos in the US and in the Philippines by creating a platform that brings people together through culture & heritage, education, health & wellness, and advocacy.

Campaign: Karapatang Kalusugan at Kabuhayan (People’s Right to Health & Livelihood): Prioritize Health Over Profits

Objectives for Campaign

Promote the vision of a free, comprehensive, and progressive health care in the US and PH
Enjoin the community to participate community discussions to deepen our understanding of current conditions in order to contribute moral and political support for communities in the US and PH
Advance projects that support Community-Based Health programming in the US that services Filipinos and broaden the partnerships and collaboration
Address the socio-economic and political factors affecting health and livelihood through advocacy in the US and PH

LEAD FILIPINO CENTER

LEAD is a nonprofit organization that creates an ecosystem to increase FilAm civic participation, grassroots leadership, and community action. L.E.A.D Filipino stands for leadership, education, activism, and open dialogue.

Programs: Annual Fly Pinays, Queer Lakbay Summit, Liboration Book Club, Policy, Politics, & Puto, Awareness in Action

Initiatives: FilAm Cancer Study, Delano Manongs Park, Stop AAPI Hate, FIERCE Coaltion, Lola Scholarship Fund

SOGOREA’ TE LAND TRUST

The Sogorea' Te Land Trust is an urban Indigenous women-led land trust based in the SF Bay Area that facilitates the return of Indigenous land to Indigenous people. As students at UC Berkeley, we recognize that Berkeley sits on the territory of Xučyun, the ancestral and unceded land of the Chochenyo speaking Ohlone people, the successors of the historic and sovereign verona band of Alameda County. This land was and continues to be of great importance to the Muwekma (muh-wek-muh) Ohlone tribe and other familial descendants of the verona band. We recognize that every member of the Berkeley community has benefited, and continues to benefit, from the use and occupation of this land since the institution’s founding in 1868.

Rematriate the Land Fund

Programs and initiatives include reclaiming stolen land, growing medicine gardens, building Himmetkas (emergency response hubs), distributing fresh food to elders, and revitalizing Indigenous languages, cultures and practices in the East Bay Area.

Cultural Revitalization

An essential part of their work of rematriation is regenerating and returning to the cultural knowledges and practices that were lost in colonization. They are revitalizing the rich cultural and spiritual traditions of their ancestors through their projects and everyday practices.

Youth Programs

An Indigenous-led youth program for creative and innovative Black, Indigenous, and People of Color self Identified youth who want to learn more about the land they are on.

PHILIPPINE MEDICAL SOCIETY OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA’S MEDICAL MISSION

Each year, the Philippine Medical Society of Northern California (PMSNC) goes on a medical mission to the Philippines. The mission will provide emergent medical services to specific locations or communities in the Philippines. This year, they will be going to Santa Barbara, Pangasinan and nine students from PAHC will be joining them. Funds raised will be going towards assisting costs of the mission.

At the venue on 12/2, we will have a Community Balikbayan Box! We ask if you have any PPE, masks, or extra covid tests to please bring them for donation. These are most needed. Supplies (ex: toothbrushes, floss, vitamins, etc.) and clothes are also welcome donations! Our student volunteers will bring them to the Philippines to distribute during the medical mission. Your contributions and donations are highly appreciated!
