We all know that having strong reading skills is paramount for success in most every domain of life. But did you know that in Alachua County, there are more than 10,000 students between grades 3 and 12 that are classified as "functionally illiterate"?

These students often deal with low confidence and self-esteem, higher dropout rates, and struggle to find consistent employment as adults. Families Learning Together is partnering with PEAK Literacy to apply their proven method of tutoring struggling readers. They have seen lasting results utilizing the evidence based Great Leaps Reading intervention, traditionally administered by a volunteer to a child who is at least two grade levels behind in reading. FLT believes that, given the opportunity, we can empower committed parents to change the trajectory of their child's life by giving them fluent reading skills and simultaneously spending positive time with their child, strengthening the family bond.

Here's what we need to make this pilot program a success:

By November 16th....$960 ($80.00 x 12 ) for the cost of 2 internet capable tablets per family for 12 families

By December 31st.... $1,548 ($129.00 x 12) to cover Great Leaps Digital Reading Licenses for 1 year for 12 families

......$60.00 ($5.00 x 12) Zoho online web meeting platform licenses for 1 year for 12 families

Total Costs: $2568-That's $214/child for AN ENTIRE YEAR'S worth of reading intervention tools!

WHEN this pilot program is successful, we will seek funding to empower even more families to take an active role in their child's education.
