Read our 2023 Impact Report and see how your support is making a difference!
As the year draws to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on the incredible journey of 2023. We’ve witnessed stories of strength and resilience, all made possible by the generosity and kindness of our community of supporters. Your steadfast commitment creates a lifeline for women and families seeking refuge and rebuilding their lives at Providence House, and for that we cannot thank you enough.
In 2023, Providence House celebrated the groundbreaking and grand opening of our Women’s Justice Program expansion site. Thanks to the commitment of our partners in philanthropy, along with the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, we transformed adjacent Bed -Stuy brownstones into the ideal place for housing our Women’s Justice Program. We now have 45 beds available to women and gender expansive people impacted by incarceration. Here, they can feel safe and supported as they take the first step towards leading safe and stable lives in the community.
At our Supportive Housing program, Providence House built its capacity for increasing health and wellness outcomes for the 100+ women and families residing in our 4 sites throughout Brooklyn. We added new services to help combat social isolation and promote prosocial behavior for residents, with a goal of building strong communities within each of our houses. We also hired our first Licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (LPNP) dedicated to the program. In the coming months, our LPNP will continue to build out programs and practices designed to track and improve health outcomes of each resident.
This year, we experienced one of our biggest challenges to date as an organization; responding to the ongoing crisis of people entering New York in search of asylum. Today, more than 1/3 of people residing in our East Brooklyn program are recent arrivals with more than 50% of them being children. Many of these individuals experienced extreme hardships, often escaping volatility and unrest. Providence House opened its doors and built its capacity for serving these families by hiring bilingual staff, coordinating legal aid services, and holding workshops and financial literacy classes in Spanish. As a result, we have created a sense of belonging for these families as they work to gain a foothold in our community.
Your support has been the driving force behind every success story, every moment of healing, and every step toward a brighter future for our participants. Now, as we approach the end of this transformative year, we are excited to invite you to be a part of our Year-End Campaign, dedicated to spreading hope, empowerment, and renewed possibilities.
Wishing you a joyous holiday season filled with love, warmth, and the knowledge that you've made a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.
With Gratitude,
