🖌 Help Restore Philomena’s Mural w/ Artist Ernest Doty! 🎨

Since opening in 2016, the mural on E 18th has been a beloved part of Philomena Pizza and our East Oakland community. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, it was vandalized by an out-of-town tagger.

This was devastating. That mural was a huge part of our identity—an incredible piece of art brought to life by the talented Ernest Doty. Seeing it defaced hit hard. Honestly, I was so angry that I held off on saying anything.

The damage was beyond repair, so we had no choice but to paint over it, covering the worst of the tags that had completely obscured our beautiful parrot. But then, something amazing happened—Ernest is in town and available to create a brand-new mural for us!

After talking with him, I realized this isn’t just a loss—it’s an opportunity. Philomena has grown so much in the past eight years. Ernest has evolved as an artist, bringing new skills and inspiration. And now, our community gets the chance to experience another powerful and inspiring piece of public art.

So, what started as anger, frustration, and disappointment has turned into hope and excitement for this new project.
