Support My Eagle Scout Project: Building a Storage Shed for SMILE Mass

Hello, my name is Jenna Yazdani and I am a Scout working toward the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Scouting. As part of this process, I am leading a service project that benefits my community while upholding the Scout Oath and Law. For my project, I have partnered with SMILE Mass, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families raising children and adults with disabilities to live happy, healthy lives. Together we are building a storage shed that will house essential adaptive equipment, such as racing chairs and floating beach wheelchairs, which are part of their extensive loaner program.

The Eagle Scout Service Project is a unique opportunity for Scouts to demonstrate leadership while giving back to their community. It is a significant milestone that requires careful planning, fundraising, and execution. When I connected with SMILE Mass, I was thrilled to find that my project goals perfectly aligned with their mission to empower individuals with disabilities through inclusive programs that promote recreation, education, and vacation opportunities. This shed will provide SMILE Mass with much-needed storage space to ensure their adaptive equipment is organized, secure, and accessible to families who need it.

SMILE Mass has been transforming lives since its founding in 2009, serving over 30,000 families through programs that promote inclusion and accessibility. Their Adaptive Equipment Loaner Program allows families to borrow specialized equipment—like beach wheelchairs, racing chairs, and adaptive bikes—free of charge, giving individuals with disabilities opportunities to experience activities that many take for granted. The new storage shed will ensure these items are stored safely, preserving them for years of use and helping SMILE Mass continue to support families across New England. They've also donated over 180 floating beach wheelchairs to public ponds and beaches which enable people with disabilities to enjoy a day at the beach, just like you and me.
