I am rowing in the Pink Ribbon Row as a 2020 breast cancer survivor, now four years cancer-free. I was fortunate to have access to preventative screening that caught my cancer at an early stage. This allowed me to undergo a double mastectomy without needing radiation, chemotherapy, or hormone suppressors. Not everyone is so fortunate, which is why raising awareness and funding for breast cancer is so important. I am rowing in honor of my cousin, Celeste Baldwin, who found her cancer much later and has been courageously battling it with chemotherapy and radiation for almost ten years. Despite her challenges, she even joined the Silver Lining Montana Paddlers, a breast cancer support group, when she was well enough. For Celeste, treatment meant more precious time with her family, including her four granddaughters. Now, as she enters hospice care, I want to celebrate her incredible strength and spirit.
