Eight participants will join Registered Maine Guide Hazel Stark on August 2 – 4, 2024, to experience the splendor and adventure of Katahdin.

Participants fundraise at least $1500 for this bucket-list weekend that helps to nourish a community.

The money raised during this fundraiser will support Incredible Edible Milbridge, which provides free, pick-your-own vegetable gardens and education initiatives designed to make our community stronger, healthier, and more food-independent.

THE NEED

Our county has the greatest proportion of residents living below the federal poverty level and the highest percentage of children under age 5 living in poverty. At 17%, Washington County has the highest food insecurity rate in the state. The County Health Rankings show Washington County last in overall health outcomes.

THE BENEFITS

The tangible, immediate benefit of Incredible Edible is providing food to our at-risk, vulnerable neighbors. The intangible benefit: the garden experience itself. Incredible Edible provides space for people to connect to each other as they harvest. One woman told us, “I love coming here! I meet someone new every time I visit”.

The Incredible Edible model works in our proud community because free food does not come at the cost of one’s dignity. The gardens are for everyone.
