A few notes:

The SOS Adoption Donation helps to defray our expenses for food, sheltering, transport, vaccinations and veterinary care, as well as the administrative and other supportive costs associated with our adoption program. Once an adoption is finalized with physical transfer of the dog, Adoption Donations are NOT refundable. If a return of the dog is initiated within the first 14 days of transfer to the adopter, a portion of the adoption donation may be returned to the adopter at SOS's sole discretion, with a minimum administrative fee of $150 kept by SOS to cover expenses associated with the placement and return.

SOSARL will always take our dogs back within 30 days of transfer due to a bad match, but as we are 100% foster-home based, it may take us several days or weeks to find an open foster home.

We take the health and temperament of our dogs very seriously. We follow strict vetting protocols to help ensure that our dogs are healthy while in our care and when they are transferred to you. Our dogs are examined by our veterinarians multiple times while in our care, and we require full exam and fecal testing just prior to transport north. Our local foster homes are our eyes on our dogs, and occasionally, new medical or behavioral concerns develop (as they are living, breathing creatures) and sometimes these concerns are only discovered as late as on adoption day when a second set of eyes is on the dog. We will always try to share as much as we know about our dogs' health and behavior, but we have not performed every diagnostic test possible on our dogs, nor observed our dogs in all situations, and many behaviors (and some medical conditions) are relationship- and/or situation-specific. Importantly, we are not veterinarians or behaviorists, but concerned animal welfare advocates with deep but not unlimited experience. We cannot predict the future, but we draw upon our extensive experience and knowledge to help set everyone up for success. By working with SOSARL, you are agreeing to be part of this process, which may take unexpected turns and pivots, and occasionally end in an unexpected outcome. Our ultimate, goal, however, is to lay the groundwork for appropriate outcomes while maintaining transparency, kindness, collaboration and trust throughout the process. We will do our best to share accurate information with you in a timely manner, and include you in the decision-making process about how best to move forward but sometimes the concerns may require that an adoption is delayed or even cancelled. In the case of cancellation, if we cannot transfer the intended dog to you, your adoption donation will be refunded in full.
